At the dawn of a new era, there exists like history has shown, many forms of the same technology all striving to become the best and position itself as the forerunner.  But until time goes on and a natural born winner presents itself, the world of 3D printing will have to live with the premise of many competing technologies.  In order of popularity, you will find a list below of the current trends in 3D printing technology and a description of………… TBC

[bra_dropcaps style=’dropcap1′]FFF[/bra_dropcaps] is the term used for “Fused Filament Fabrication” whilst also meaning the same thing as “Fused Deposition Modelling” and is the most commonly found method for 3D printing.  Being a fairly developed technology portraying the…The technology is an “additive” principle by laying down material in layers and was initially developed in the late 1980’s. Variations on this process have appeared under the names of Plastic Jet Printing (PJP) and Thermoplastic Extrusion (TPE) to name a few. For ease, we’ll continue to refer to this related group of technologies as the FFF 3D printing technology.

[bra_dropcaps style=’dropcap1′]FDM[/bra_dropcaps]is simply an alternate name to FFF as above and describes the exact same technology but is unfortunately trademarked for general use by the well established maker, Stratasys Inc.  This being the primary reason for the initial confusion why there exists so many names determining the exact same technology. It therefore cannot be legally used to describe a printer of this type of technology other than those being made by Stratasys solely.  (Hopefully FFF will become the standard industry meaning)
